1. Can you tell us more about Skyblue Music Works?
We started off as a group of friends interested in Chinese pop music composing and music publishing. On 7 July 2003, Skyblue Songwriters’ Guild was founded. Our web address is http://asia.groups.yahoo.com/group/skyblue_songwritersguild . This yahoo group served as a platform for us to communicate and exchange ideas. In an effort to realise a childhood dream, Skyblue Music Works Pte Ltd was formed in October 2003.
2. What is the relationship between Skyblue Songwriters’ Guild, Skyblue Music Works, Skybluzone and Skybluz?
Skyblue Songwriters’ Guild is the online network of Skyblue Music Works Pte Ltd (The music publishing company). Skybluzone, coined in January 2006, is the name of the official website of Skyblue Music Works. You are now looking at Skybluz, renamed in May 2009. The purpose of Skybluz is to allow potential songwriters to make first contact with the A&R of Skyblue Music Works. With the setting up of Skybluz, Skyblue Songwriters' Guild continue to serve as a emailing conduit to facilitate communications between its members and the A&R of Skyblue Music Works.
3. How do we go about publishing a song with Skyblue Music Works?

7. Music Background, if any
All fields must be filled. If no music background, just put N.A.
We will contact you if your demo is shortlisted.
Please bear in mind that your demo must have a vocal and at least one musical instrument.
4. So if I have a demo, and send it to Skyblue Music Works, who will decide which songs are shortlisted?
Yes, we at
are the A&R of Skyblue Music Works Pte Ltd. A&R stands for artist and repertoire. Our job is to listen to demos and filter out the potential ones to send to Taiwan.
5. Before the song is published, do i need to sign a contract?
Yes. If your demo(s) is(are) shortlisted, we will either offer you a songwriters' contract, or a song-basis contract, depending on your potential. Details will only be disclosed when the contract is offered.
6. If I have an existing contract with a music publisher or an artiste management company, am i still able to collaborate with Skyblue Music Works?
We are only able to collaborate with songwriters FREE from any publishing contract... if you are already contracted as a songwriter to a music publisher, Skyblue Music Works will not be able to sign you, neither song-basis nor songwriter-basis. If you have only signed song-basis contracts, then you may still give us your songs that are not yet contracted. Artiste management company wise, it would be your duty to find out from them if they allow you to enter into another contract with a music publisher.
7. If my song were to be published, how will the royalties be shared?
We will share the royalties as agreed in the contract. Details will only be disclosed in the contract itself.
8. How could I be sure that my demo(s), once submitted, will be in good hands?
Skyblue Music Works will deal with all submitted demos with the highest confidentiality. We will not circulate your demos or use them for any commercial purpose without the consent of the songwriters. To date, many songwriters have trusted us with their demos.
9. After I published my song, do i still own the song?
Yes, you do. All composers and authors have copyright to their songs up to 70 years after their departure from this world.
10. Who is Skybluz?
Not “Skyblue” but “Skybluz” with an ending “z". Skybluz is the pen-name of the founder of Skyblue Music Works. He has published songs sung by Na Ying, Yuki Masuyama, Le Yao of Mediacorp and Jerry Yan. A Singaporean composer, author, arranger and sound engineer, he prefers to be known as Skybluz online, though all contracted songwriters know his real name. 11. What else do I need to know?
Skyblue Music Works has come a long way since 2003. If you know of any friends who can compose and/or author, please do spread the word. Music knowledge is free for all. Skybluz aims to help young songwriters along the way to maturity. No one should be deprived of an avenue to publish his/her compositions, so long as the works have the potential to be seen and heard.
